Pick 10: Fall Date Ideas for Every Couple in Saskatoon

Saskatoon autumn date ideas

I’m lucky to have experienced many autumn things in Saskatoon to build this definitive guide to fall date ideas in the city.

So far, I’ve played puzzles blindfolded with horses, transformed into a human soccer ball and got attacked by children, picked a pumpkin from the local patch, and went indoor mini golfing. But there are still plenty of things I haven’t done that made their way into this post.

Treat your date to a plate of gourmet donuts, plan a cozy bonfire picnic in the park, tailgate at a local football game, or courageously tackle a high ropes course. There is a world of fall fun listed below.

Get a bird’s eye view of the changing leaves.

Take a road trip to the zip-line and high ropes course at Blue Mountain Adventure Park, or get even higher in a hot air balloon ride with Sundance Balloons.

Plan a farmers’ market grocery haul and make a local producer smile.

Taken at the Saskatoon Farm near Calgary.

Set a reasonable spending limit and go on a shopping spree at the Saskatoon Farmers’ Market – just in time for a harvest feast.

Slip on a pair of safety socks and become a human soccer ball.

After trying to fend off children (and my date) for close to 10 minutes, I was out of breath and sweating through my clothes. Plan to spend about 30 minutes total at the park – believe me, it’s more than enough time!

Choose a topic you both love and browse for the best reads at McNally Robinson Booksellers.

Go on a mini coffee and donut crawl.

Sample the latest gourmet flavours at the newly opened Pals Donuts (Revolve Cafe) and Darkside Donuts.

Play an escape game with a live, 1-tonne animal as your key.

Equine Assisted Couples Communication Course
The owners of Lift Farm invited us out for a night.

Put your communication skills to the test with a rescue horse at the helm at Lift Farm EAL. On date nights at Lift, you’ll work through different obstacles to see if you can complete them together.

Tailgate with thousands of friends from town.

Pack your warmest toque, stadium cushion, and cooler and head for the Huskies game.

Pumpkin picking has never been more fun!

Black Fox Distillery Pumpkin Festival 2017

Pick your favourite pumpkin to decorate and carve together from the folks at Black Fox Farm.

Hike along the Meewasin Valley at Beaver Creek followed by a bonfire picnic at a local park.

Slow clap your way into their heart with a round of indoor mini golf at Market Mall on a rainy autumn day.

Choose a rural Saskatchewan town you haven’t visited and make a day trip out of it.

Drive the country back roads and plan your own photo scavenger hunt to capture the adventure. (Stuck on ideas? Try What to Order at Saskatchewan’s Favourite Hidden Gem Bakeries or How to spend 48 hours in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan.)

Give your date a classic autumn experience with a day of apple picking at Petrofka Orchard. (Closes for the season on October 15th.)

Your Guide to Halloween Events in Saskatoon 2018

Saskatoon Halloween 2018

Oh, you thought Halloween was only one day a year? Mwahahaha! Between live shows, haunted houses, pub parties, and other special events – you’ll need to up your costume game to cover at least three days worth of festivities.

Get spooked to the bone inside a good old fashioned haunted house; watch magicians, musicians, and pole dancers; send the kiddies for G-rated boos; and party with cheerleaders on a cross-town pub crawl. It would only be possible to experience everything if you spread it out over a couple of weeks. So this list is coming at you early to give you time to make up your mind.

If you’re craving a little more than Netflix and Chills this Halloween, Saskatoon has a range of parties and activities for everyone… living and dead. Okay, maybe not dead. Just don’t be surprised if they show up uninvited!

7 of the Best Things to Do in Saskatoon this Fall

Autumn in Saskatoon 2017: 7 of the Best Things to Do

If it’s totally basic to be a fan of everything autumn — cozy sweaters, pumpkin spice lattes, and colourful foliage — then hand me the North Face jacket and Ugg boots, ’cause this season I’m saying: #PumpkinEverything.

Fall has to be my favourite season in Saskatoon.  So in celebration of Do Sask’s sponsorship with Kings Court Events’ Autumn Extravaganza Trade Show this weekend at Prairieland Park, I’ve come up with a list of all of my favourite things to do this season.

This post will give you 7 fun things to do in and around Saskatoon this fall. From a map of the city’s spooky haunted (& historic) houses, to unique indoor activities that get you out of the chilly weather – you’ll find ideas and events that are outside of the box for your next date night out.

Scroll to the bottom for details on the Autumn Extravaganza trade show happening this weekend!

Here are 7 of the best things to do in Saskatoon in the fall:

Warmed Up Wardrobe

That cable-knit cozy feeling is everywhere you look! From your home decor, to entre options – you name it, when it’s fall in Saskatoon “comfortable” is your middle name.

The transition from summer to fall wardrobe pieces is an exciting time for most as they replace their shorts and sunnies with boots and sweaters.

It’s never too cold for flip-flops #FallFlipFlops #WalkWithPurpose

A post shared by Project Rosa Brazil (@projectrosabrazil) on

But some locals still won’t let go of their flip flops until Old Man Winter rolls out his white carpet.

Crunchy Fall Fun

Black Fox Distillery Pumpkin Festival 2017
My friend Michelle getting ready to play pumpkin bowling at Black Fox Farm & Distillery.

From the corn mazes and pumpkin patches that sprinkle Valley Road, to the plethora of unique indoor activities going on all over the city – rake “fun” into a pile and then jump right on in. Some indoor activities on my radar include:

Fall Suppers

When it comes to handmade food, fall in Saskatoon delivers on its wide variety of options at church and community suppers. (You don’t have to be religious to celebrate – believe me, you won’t explode into flames upon setting foot in a church hall.)

Whether you’re all about the turkey, or prefer to ham it up you’ll spend next to nothing getting a feast prepared by caring volunteers that want to break bread with their neighbours.

Call me old school, but peanut butter marshmallow squares and grasshopper pie are definitely worth the hassle of checking a community cork board to track down the whereabouts of a Fall supper near you. (Check Do Sask’s private group for a listing.)

Mmm… dessert mashup!

Breathtaking Fall Foliage

Have you ever had an eyegasm? Then you probably haven’t looked at the Meewassin River Valley in the middle of autumn. Walk up and down the paths on the banks of the river to catch bright reds, glistening yellows, and gleaming golds as chlorophyll calls it quits for 2017.

Saskatoon’s Historic Places

Everyone knows Spadina Crescent’s lineup from its magnificent impact on our urban landscape. But have you spent time inside the lesser-known historic places that are sprinkled throughout our city?

Fall in Saskatoon brings out the Boomtown sprit that lives on in the little places that give our city so much quaint history. Do Sask partner location, The Hose & Hydrant Pub, used to be a fire station. And this helpful Wiki list gives you even more ideas for places to visit this fall.

With all our centuries-old history comes a generous helping of the paranormal. According to members of our private group, there are plenty of ghost sightings in popular historic locations around town like O’Briens Event Centre, The University of Saskatchewan, and the Delta Bessborough.

Saskatoon Haunted Houses

Speaking of ghosts, we’re lucky to have plenty of volunteers who transform their houses into scary haunts and walk-throughs every Halloween. Click here to add yours to the map, or visit the Scariest House in Saskatoon to plan your route this fall.

Autumn Extravaganza Tradeshow

I consider myself a lover of handmade gifts, fresh baking, entrepreneurial spirit and local business. Kings Court Events combines them into Saskatoon weekend trade shows.

Celebrate fall in Saskatoon by supporting a local artisan when you visit the Autumn Extravaganza, this Saturday and Sunday at Prairieland Park. Nearly 100 vendors are on hand with offerings from a variety of makers, crafters, and bakers. There will be swag bags, door-prizes, and, of course, tons of beautiful craft and artisan products.

Saskatoon trade shows are best enjoyed when you plan ahead. So wear comfy shoes (not flip flops — see my first point) and pack a granola bar or two because you may just find a reason to stay a while. (And you’ll likely walk away with a smiling kid who just got the most badass face paint ever. Everyone’s happy!)

Check out Kings Court Events on Facebook for details on upcoming shows like the Early Bird Christmas, October 28th in Warman and the Mega Snow Christmas Show, November 25th to 26th.

AUTUMN EXTRAVAGANZA HOURS:

Prairieland Park, Hall B – Admission $5, 12 and under free

  1. Saturday, October 14th 10am – 5pm
  2. Sunday, October 15th 10am – 4pm
